NAVESINK GARDEN CLUB HOSTS “A BIT OF PROVENCE IN MONMOUTH COUNTY”
On October 8 at 11 a.m. the Navesink Garden Club will host a program titled “A Bit of Provence in Monmouth County.” Ellen Karcher, former NJ State Senator and owner of Pleasant Valley Farm in Morganville, NJ, will speak about the cultivation, uses and varieties of lavender. After starting her own farm with 150 lavender plants, she now has more than 2,000 plants on ten rolling acres. Ms Karcher will also demonstrate how to make your own lavender sachet. The program will take place at The Atrium, 40 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, and is open to the public free of charge.

“HOLIDAY BLOOMS” Flower Show a Huge Success

“HOLIDAY BLOOMS” FLOWER SHOW A HUGE SUCCESS
The Navesink Garden Clubs’ Small Standard Flower Show titled “Holiday Blooms” was a huge success and visited by many garden enthusiasts at The Atrium at 40 Riverside Avenue in Red Bank. Featuring both Design and Horticulture Divisions, a total of 107 ribbons were awarded. Marina Kerber won the Designer’s Choice Award for her “Happy New Year” design. Bernice Maguire received 11 horticulture awards including an Award of Merit and received a first place blue ribbon for her “Thanksgiving Day” design. Ronnie Lander won 5 horticultural awards including the Arboreal Award and received a second place red ribbon for her “Thanksgiving Day” design . Pam Marhan garnered a first place blue ribbon and Melanie Straniero a second place red ribbon for their “Merry Christmas” design entries. Theresa Johnson won
second place for her “Happy New Year” design and received 11 horticultural ribbons. Joanne Mallon received two Awards of Merit for horticulture. Additional winners in the Horticulture Division were Yoko Ikura, Janine Voell , Pat Wotton, Betty Lou Berger, Bernadette Kelly, and April Qin. Additional awards in the Design Division were presented to Judy Alberse, Yoko Ikura, Betty Lou Berger, Pam Sutton and Dian Woodroffe and Joanne Mallon.

Robin Hood Day @ Monmouth Museum

Along with the Monmouth Museum, the Navesink Garden Club is presenting a fun day for all! The event is on Saturday, 9/21 from 10 – 5.
Our activities will include an introduction (or re-Introduction) to the famous Robin Hood of legend, inspired by our late member and one of the founders of this nature area, Betty Jean Meyer!
From 10 am to 5 pm there will be tours of the Museum for free. We will also have crafts and a story hour with hats, capes, and pictures to remember Robin Hood (or any SuperHero!). The day will also include a Planetarium Show for ages 7+ will at 1:30 pm
Come see how the Navesink Garden Club has designed and maintained the nature area to provide a fulfilling experience of local horticulture and animals.
We are hoping that many Club members will be available to discuss our projects and meet the public.

NAVESINK GARDEN CLUB TO HOLD SMALL STANDARD FLOWER SHOW
The Navesink Garden Club is staging a small standard flower show titled “Holiday Blooms” on September 10 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The show will be held at The Atrium at Navesink Harbor located at 40 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, and is open to the public free of charge.
This club has held a horticulture show every year since its inception in 1947. This year’s venue will encompass both horticulture and design divisions. In the Horticulture Division members will enter and display their best examples of fruits, vegetables, herbs, flowers and plants grown in their gardens over the summer. In addition, there will be sections devoted to container-grown plants and combination plantings. Exhibits will be eligible for Awards of Merit, Arboreal Award and the Grower’s Choice Award. An abundant and colorful exhibit in the past, it promises to be an exciting one this year with holiday titles such as “Fourth of July,” “Midsummer’s Eve,” “Valentine’s Day,” and many more.
In the Design Division, members are invited to enter a “design of any type” in Classes titled “Happy Thanksgiving,” “Merry Christmas,” and “Happy New Year,” again playing into the theme “Holiday Blooms.” Participants will be eligible for a Designer’s Choice Award.

THE NAVESINK GARDEN CLUB HOSTS “GARDEN TO VASE”
On Tuesday, May 14 at 1 p.m., the Navesink Garden Club will host “Garden to Vase” by Alicia Vacchiano, Master Gardener, Certified Horticulturist and owner of Plant Design Events. This program will focus on floral design and will cover topics such as hardy annuals, making creative use of plants you are already growing, techniques of harvesting and preparing cut flowers, floral arranging and understanding how to use different textures. Alicia will provide you with the knowledge about how to have an abundance of non-stop cut flowers from your own garden from spring to frost.
The public is invited to attend this program free of charge at The Atrium at Navesink Harbor, 40 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, NJ.

Upcoming Meeting – Landscape Design

On APRIL 9, Navesink Garden Club will host “Elements and Principles of Landscape Design” by Jan Godek. In a slide presentation Ms. Godek will illustrate when the elements and principles of design are used correctly and when they are not. She is a GCNJ Master Landscape Design Consultant with experience in residential landscape/garden design. Her passions include pruning trees, organic gardens and visiting at least one new major public garden each year. Handouts will be available, but as Ms. Godek says, “A picture is worth a thousand words”.
The Program will take place at The Atrium at Navesink Harbor, 40 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, at 1 p.m. The public is invited free of charge.
