“A Bit of Provence in Monmouth County”

Presenter – Ellen Karcher

Ellen Karcher a former NJ State Senator, and owner of Pleasant Valley Lavender Farm in Morganville, will discuss the cultivation, uses, and different types of lavender. Ms. Karcher started her farm with 150 lavender plants and now has more than 2,000 plants on ten rolling acres. With Ellen’s help, members will make their own lavender sachets to take home.

“New Jersey – a Migratory Bird Hotspot”

Presenter – Brett Ewald

Brett Ewald, the Director of the Cape May Bird Observatory, will discuss the many feathered friends who pass through our state. He will also explain the new migration monitoring project underway in the celebrated migratory juncture of Cape May. This is the only all species migratory count on the East Coast. This one is of particular interest to those of you who have participated in the count, or just wondered how it is conducted.

“Holiday Workshop”

This month we bring in something to use to make our own unique holiday designs. Start gathering your vase, wreath base, ribbons, flowers, all your ideas for a fun afternoon of fellowship and creativity.

Bring in a dish to share, and materials from the garden to share also.

“Group Mass Design – a Demonstration”

Presenter – Marina K.

Our own Marina Kerber, National Garden Club Accredited Life Judge, will demonstrate the creative category Group Mass Design which was introduced in the NGC 2017 Handbook for Flower Shows. The differences between Traditional Mass Design and Group Mass Design will also be addressed.

“Saving our Coastal Environments”

Presenter – Tim Dillingham

Tim Dillingham, Executive Director of the American Littoral Society since 2003, will illustrate the many ways we can protect our environment and preserve precious waterways. Mr. Dillingham holds a BS in Biology and a graduate degree from the University of Rhode Island in Coastal and Marine Resource Management.

“Mastering Petite Design”

Presenter – Debbie Moran

NGC Accredited Master Judge Debbie Moran will deconstruct the petite design for us. Debbie is an accomplished designer whose works have garnered many blue ribbons and the coveted Petite Award at the Philadelphia Flower Show and the NJ State Flower Show in Edison. A former member of Floralia, Debbie is a member of the Montclair Garden Club.

May 12, 2020

“Tips from the Butterfly Whisperer”

Presenter – Candy Tice

Candy Tice is a certified Rutgers Monmouth County Master Gardener. She will cover everything you need to do to get butterflies into your gardens. She will advise on planting a diversity of nectar flowers to attract and keep them. She will also discuss plants the butterflies need to lay their eggs and that are food for the caterpillars that will hatch.
