Tying the Knot – a Small Standard Flower Show

Each year we begin our meeting series with a small standard flower show. We will post more information as it is available. Members are encouraged to bring in specimens that will show the best of our summer gardens. Don’t forget our “challenge” class, which this year includes a zucchini, a beet, and a Swiss chard. Good luck to all our summer growers!

There is also a design class, as we will post here for those interested in that aspect of our club.

A Peek Inside the Artist’s Garden

Presenter – Bob Cane

Bob is an avid gardener and photojournalist, who visually captures the essence of flowers and butterflies from a macrophotographic perspective. This program revolves around his digital images. He also covers flower photography basics, and display “Quilling,” an art form that involves rolling paper in various shapes.

Creating a Hummingbird Habitat

Presenter – Ann Sherwood, Master Gardener

Hummingbirds are masters of beauty and disguise. By understanding a little bit about their unique biology, you can design your garden or window box to be more inviting to them. Ann will discuss choosing and positioning the plants they love so you can enjoy watching these fascinating creatures.

Holiday Design-Making

Bring in something you would like to use to make your own unique holiday design. I.e., Vase, Wreath, Ribbons, Flowers, etc. We also welcome extra greens from your garden to share.

Ikebana History & Demonstration

Presenter – Yoko Ikura

Yoko will briefly explain Ikebana history and her school, Sogetsu. She will follow with a demonstration of how to make two styles: Moribana (flat container with Kenzan or spiked frog) and basic slanting style or Negeire (tall vase), along with several freestyle techniques.

Back by popular demand, Alicia’s lecture will focus on floral arrangement design. She will cover topics such as hardy annuals, making creative use of plants you’re already growing, techniques of harvesting and preparing cut flowers and floral arranging and understanding how to use different textures. She will provide you with the knowledge to have an abundance of non-stop cut flowers from your own garden from spring until frost.
