Navesink Garden Club Members Win Awards at the New Jersey Flower Show
February 2017 – Continuing their award-winning tradition this month at the New Jersey Garden Show in Edison, the Navesink Garden Club members won accolades for their horticulture and design entries.
Gotti Kelley won 3 blue ribbons and 4 red ribbons in the horticulture event.
Pam Sutton, who entered 3 design categories, won a yellow ribbon and 2 honorable mentions.
Irene Saputo won 2 blue, 1 red, and 1 yellow horticulture awards, as well as 2 awards in the artistic craft category for her bracelet and decorated shoe (pictured).
Janine Voell won 3 blue and 4 red ribbons in horticulture, while also winning a red ribbon for her artistic necklace and 2 awards for her photography entries.
Yoko Ikura won a blue ribbon for horticulture and a yellow ribbon for her traditional design.
April Quin won a traditional design honorable mention.
In the youth garden category, 14 6th grade students participated from Atlantic Highlands Elementary School. There were 4 first place ribbons, 4 second place ribbons, 4 third place ribbons, and 2 honorable mention.
The Junior Gardener Club, called GoSprouts, also won a blue ribbon in the 2016 Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) Gardening and Greening Contest for their creation of a Children’s Learning Garden at the above school. They were selected from over 300 entries and recognized for their commitment to enhance their neighborhood through their work in this garden. They have also won 2 distinguished Junior Gardener awards from the Garden Club of NJ in recognition of their devotion and success to this program and have spoken at TEDxNavesink on the benefits of garden-based learning.
The Navesink Garden Club is inviting people interested in horticulture and design to join the club. Meet everyone and learn what interesting projects the club will be doing. Come to one of the monthly meetings held the second Tuesday of the month at The Atrium, located at 40 Riverside Avenue in Red Bank, in September, October, November, December, January, March, April, and May from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
The Navesink Garden Club is a member of The Garden Club of New Jersey, Inc. and the Central Atlantic Region of National Garden Clubs, Inc. Members come from Atlantic Highlands, Belford, Brick, Chatham, Colts Neck, Eatontown, Elberon, Fair Haven, Highlands, Holmdel, Leonardo, Lincroft, Little Silver, Middletown, Neptune, Ocean, Rumson, Shrewsbury, Tinton Falls, and Red Bank.
